Mediocre Mage
A downloadable game for Windows
Mediocre Mage is a 2D puzzle platformer created for the Louisiana Tech Game Jam with a theme of “unwanted abilities”. The player controls a sub-par mage with the goal of becoming more powerful. Luckily, he finds some strong summons to help him! Sadly though, the summons either do not care about him or actively hunt him… The goal of the game is, of course, to complete the puzzles on each stage during the mage’s journey while utilizing the monsters you find and are able to summon. These monsters will be helpful if used correctly, but they also may even attack you! Below is a description of each monster and their benefits/negatives: Flytrap – This monster is an inert plant creature when initially placed, but once the player touches the thing, it will rise into the air, and then snap shut violently! The player can use this rising action to get to higher places by standing on top of the creature, but if they stay too long the plant monster will get a snack! Bulldozer – This pig-like creature mindlessly runs around after being placed and will attack the player if it gets too close! The benefit of this creature is it will activate buttons and can push objects, but if it touches the player, the player will not survive. Magpie – This little cretin loves shiny things and will actively fly to and grab anything shiny it finds! The benefit is it can get any keys that are out of reach of the player, but the downside is the magpie won’t return with the key. The player must find a way to get it from this devilish bird! Reaper – The lord of death, the reaper, will hunt down any monsters you have already placed on the screen and reaps their souls back to you for an extra use! The downside is the reaper hunts you if there are no monsters on screen, and if he touches you, your soul is forfeit!
